Step 1: Confirm Your Property Complies with HRM Regulations
Before registering with the Province, your property must comply with Halifax’s Short-Term Rental regulations.
The first step is contacting HRM and confirming that your property meets zoning requirements for short-term rental use.
We recommend calling 311 and asking to speak with the Short-Term Rental department. An agent can review your address, provide preliminary guidance, and explain the specific requirements applicable to your property.

Once approved, HRM may provide documentation such as a zoning confirmation letter or other supporting documents required for Provincial registration.

Annual renewals are required and currently renew each year on April 1.
